Eyes, our window to the world and mirror to our thoughts is the most strained in the days work. With the advent of technology we spend almost whole day looking at our computer screens or glued to the TV. These two and many other sources put excess pressure on the eyes. Excess pressure on the eyes leads to dark circles, eye burn, eye infection etc but one of the most common problem is weak eyesight. Weak eye sight is usually the result of heat and weakness of the brain. Here are few natural tips to cure weak eyesight –

  • Every morning after waking up, fill your mouth with water, close the eyes and sprinkle water on them about 10-15 times. Be sure, as Ayurveda advises, to wake up before sunrise. Do not use hot water to wash the eyes.
  • • Do not wash the eyes or face when the body is sweating, especially after hard physical exercise or after being exposed to heat and sun.
  • • Do not stare continuously, specially while looking at long distance objects. Blinking or giving rest to the eyes is good. Do not look at the objects in bright sunlight for a long time. Avoid reading, writing or working with eyes in improper light, or when the light is not sufficient. Take a break and give rest to the eyes if you feel heaviness or tiredness in the eyes.
  • • Staying up late in the night and sleeping after sunrise is harmful for the eyes. In case of staying up late, drink a cup of water after each hour or half hour.
  • • Protect your eyes from dust, smoke, strong sunlight and strong wind. Avoid staying long in such conditions. In case you have to stay, blink often and massage the closed eyes gently with your palms.
  • • Try to maintain regular and clean bowel movements. Constipation weakens the eyesight. In addition; too much anxiety, mental stress, grief, anger and worry are harmful for the eyes.
  • • Regular eye exercise maintains perfect eyesight. One simple method of exercise is moving the eyeball - right and left; upwards and downwards and rotating it in the clockwise and anti-clockwise directions.
  • • Another simple way of protecting of eyes is through 'palming'. Rub the palms of both hands for about 30 seconds, close the eyes and gently place the warm palms over the eyes.
  • • Eating cabbage and carrots is very beneficial for the eyes. These should be eaten raw. It is all right to drink cabbage and carrot juice mixed together or separately.
  • • If Triphala (an Ayurvedic preparation) is available, you can wash the eyes with 'Triphala water'. Put a teaspoonful of Triphala powder in a glass of water, and let it stay overnight. Strain the water and wash the eyes with it.
  • • Putting one drop of honey in each eye once a week is also beneficial to the eyes. It causes a bit of irritation, but cleans the eyes.
Useful Herbs for Eye Care

Aniseed (Pimpinella anisum) Aniseed is especially beneficial in the treatment of cataract. The powder of its seeds is taken in a tablespoon quantity every morning and evening.

Babul (Acacia arabica) Babul can treat conjunctivitis. A paste of the babul leaves must be applied on the eyes before going to sleep at night. It will lessen the itchiness, wateriness and the redness of the sore eyes.

Carrot (Daucus carota) Carrot is so beneficial in eye care that its virtues are taught to school students also. Carrots contain beta-carotene, which is the precursor of vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A is responsible for strengthening the eyes and protecting them from night blindness.

Coriander (Coriandrum sativum) A decoction prepared from coriander can be used as an eyewash for people with conjunctivitis. There will be immediate reduction in the burning, redness and swelling of the eyes.

Indian Gooseberry (Emblica officinalis) The Indian gooseberry, known as amalaki, is exceptional in treating ocular problems. It can bring relief in both conjunctivitis and glaucoma. Its juice is taken with honey for better effects.

Indian Sorrel (Oxalis corniculata) The Indian Sorrel has exceptional properties in the treatment of several eye problems. A few drops of the juice of its leaves must be put in the eyes everyday to keep them free from strain. They can also be a good prevention for cataract.

Marigold (Calendula officinalis) Marigold is taken as a cold infusion for washing eyes that are stressed. This brings a cooling effect to the eyes. It is also effective in cases of conjunctivitis.

Parsley (Petroselinum crispum) The raw juice of parsley is effective for eye care. It can relieve the eyes of problems such as corneal ulcers, cataracts, weak eyes, conjunctivitis, opthalmia and sluggishness of the pupils.

Ayurvedic Treatments for Eye Problems

The triphala lotion is generally prescribed in case of eye problems. Triphala is a mixture of the two myroblans - belleric and chebula - and the Indian gooseberry. The choorna is soaked in water for half an hour to get the lotion. This lotion is used as an eye-wash three or four times in a day. Triphala lotion has potency to treat eye problems such as cataract and conjunctivitis. Washing the eyes regularly with triphala also keeps them moist and healthy.

Chandrodaya vati is another important Ayurvedic preparation used in eye care. It is made into a paste in water and then applied externally over the eyes. Chandrodaya vati is beneficial in the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis and cataract.

Cracked heels are perhaps one of those problems which majority of the people have to face yet it mostly ignored. They not only look bad but also are extremely painful and become a perpetual problem due to lack of care.

Cause of cracked heels:-
    • These are generally caused because of dry skin around the rim of heels.It is called heel fissures.
    • The skin of the heels is thick and due to constant pressure and friction the crackes begin to appear which due to negligence and dust become deep.They start to bleed and become painful.
    • Wrong ways of walking, diabetes, exposure to dust, over weight, fungal infection make a person prone to cracked heels
In Ayurveda the cause of cracked heels is vitamin Vata. Due to this vitamin your skin become dry and rough. If you are in a habit of walking bare foot for a long time it can result to cracked heels because of vitamin vata.Actually the process of sweating keeps our skin moist and soft.Vitamin Vata dries up our sweat glands which then causes dryness of your skin.If you are overweight the continued pressure on feet can cause cracked heels.In Ayurveda cracked heels are classified under “ksudra rogas” which means commondisease without much complications, and explains the causes and remedies for cracked heels.

Home Remedies:

  • Never go out with bare feet. Use socks or shoes or any type of footwear.
  • Ever let your feet extra dry. Keep on applying something like cream, oil etc.
  • You can also apply pulp of ripe banana on the cracked area of the heel. This pulp is kept for about 10 minutes and then it is cleaned. This is one of the good home remedies for cracked heels.
  • Soak the affected feet in water containing lemon juice. This therapy is to be done once in a week till you find the benefit.
  • Regular application of mixture of glycerine and rosewater is well known home remedy for cracked heels.
  • Applying the melt paraffin wax and mixing it well with little mustard oil is time tasted and one of the proven home remedies for cracked heels. This is to be applied throughout night and rinse off in the morning. The whole therapy is to be continued for at least 10-15 days.
  • One should include the diet rich in calcium, minerals, zinc and vitamins. Omega 3 fatty acids are also considered to be best for cracked heels.Include vegetable oils, green vegetables, cereals, wheat germ, whole-grain products.
  • Take some foods like goat’s milk, dairy products, meat, chicken, oysters, brown rice, cold water fish etc. which are rich in calcium, zinc, iron etc.
  • Use foot scrub after soaking your feet into lukewarm water. This will remove dead skin and unwanted material from the cracked heels. This is one of the effective home remedies for cracked heels.

AyurVeda Tips:

  • Avoid walking bare foot for a long time this will vitiates vata causing cracked heels.
  • Dry and cold weather increases vata in the body and may cause cracked heels so try to cover your ffot with socks.
  • Avoid thin soled shoes or footwear and open backed shoes.
  • Use pumice stone bars to remove thick or dead skin of heels.
  • The skin of heels lacks oil glands so apply herbal motorizing lotions before going to bed and wear cotton socks.
  • Reduce body weight and do not stand for a long time.
  • Never cut hard edges with scissors, razors or blade.
  • A regular foot bath or foot massage helps to keep the skin on heels healthy and soft.
  • Wipe your feet with a dry towel make sure they are dried,apply petroleum jelly and cover them with cloth.You can mix melted paraffin wax and few drops of coconut oil , it will work as a heeling solution.Soon your heels will become soft and smooth.
  • Walking on the green grass at the morning time in the garden is also effective treatmentfor cracked heels.

Home Remedies For Bedwetting


Bedwetting is something that happens to a lot of people. Although most people think of bedwetting and kids, the truth of the matter is that anyone, of any age, can have problems with wetting the bed. For the most part, bedwetting is something that happens for kids that are ages 3 to 5. These are the ages where kids are actually ready to maintain bladder control, both emotionally and physically. Of course, bedwetting is known as an unintentional discharge of the urine during the night while you are asleep. Thus, whether that person is ready or not to control their bladder, they physically can not.

Symptoms

Just because you wet the bed, does not mean that you have a bladder control problem. In fact, they say that, most of the time, it can be caused by some kind of medical condition. For example, people with epilepsy have been known to wet the bed. Also, it is more common in people with diabetes than people without. On top of that your bed wetting could be the sign of something else wrong like spinal cord injuries, a urinary tract infection, and so on. Symptoms of bedwetting are pretty easy to spot. This means that you will wet the bed while being asleep. Sometimes you will wake up from doing this, or you will remain asleep.

Home Remedies

  • The mental counseling is the first and foremost therapy to be used to the child suffering from the bedwetting.
  • Mix Sarson powder in a cup of milk, and give to the child at night before going to bed. This will stops the bedwetting problem and is one of the good home remedies for bedwetting.
  • Reduce stress in children. This method can be done by giving herbs such as: Lemon Balm, Horsetail, Corn Silk, and Zea Mays.
  • Familiarize the children to urinate before going to bed.
  • Ensure that children stay away from foods or drinks that contain caffeine, alcohol or softdrink.
  • The child should be given two walnut halves and a teaspoon of raisins before retiring to the bed at night. This is one of the effective home remedies for bedwetting.
  • One should not feed the child with water two to four hours before bedtime.
  • Provide stress free environment to the child.Bananas are to be given.
  • One can go for chewing the cinnamon bark once in a day. It is one of the commonhome remedies for bedwetting.
  • Try to avoid sweets, meat, artificial additives and too much of fruits.
  • Make children understand that remaining dry is good and praiseworthy.Bedwetting is bad and so shameful.
  • Take Neo tablets (Charak) in the dose of 1 to 2 tablets daily for at least two to three months. This is a good home remedy for bedwetting.
