Ayurveda Tips For Cracked Heels...


Cracked heels are perhaps one of those problems which majority of the people have to face yet it mostly ignored. They not only look bad but also are extremely painful and become a perpetual problem due to lack of care.

Cause of cracked heels:-
    • These are generally caused because of dry skin around the rim of heels.It is called heel fissures.
    • The skin of the heels is thick and due to constant pressure and friction the crackes begin to appear which due to negligence and dust become deep.They start to bleed and become painful.
    • Wrong ways of walking, diabetes, exposure to dust, over weight, fungal infection make a person prone to cracked heels
In Ayurveda the cause of cracked heels is vitamin Vata. Due to this vitamin your skin become dry and rough. If you are in a habit of walking bare foot for a long time it can result to cracked heels because of vitamin vata.Actually the process of sweating keeps our skin moist and soft.Vitamin Vata dries up our sweat glands which then causes dryness of your skin.If you are overweight the continued pressure on feet can cause cracked heels.In Ayurveda cracked heels are classified under “ksudra rogas” which means commondisease without much complications, and explains the causes and remedies for cracked heels.

Home Remedies:

  • Never go out with bare feet. Use socks or shoes or any type of footwear.
  • Ever let your feet extra dry. Keep on applying something like cream, oil etc.
  • You can also apply pulp of ripe banana on the cracked area of the heel. This pulp is kept for about 10 minutes and then it is cleaned. This is one of the good home remedies for cracked heels.
  • Soak the affected feet in water containing lemon juice. This therapy is to be done once in a week till you find the benefit.
  • Regular application of mixture of glycerine and rosewater is well known home remedy for cracked heels.
  • Applying the melt paraffin wax and mixing it well with little mustard oil is time tasted and one of the proven home remedies for cracked heels. This is to be applied throughout night and rinse off in the morning. The whole therapy is to be continued for at least 10-15 days.
  • One should include the diet rich in calcium, minerals, zinc and vitamins. Omega 3 fatty acids are also considered to be best for cracked heels.Include vegetable oils, green vegetables, cereals, wheat germ, whole-grain products.
  • Take some foods like goat’s milk, dairy products, meat, chicken, oysters, brown rice, cold water fish etc. which are rich in calcium, zinc, iron etc.
  • Use foot scrub after soaking your feet into lukewarm water. This will remove dead skin and unwanted material from the cracked heels. This is one of the effective home remedies for cracked heels.

AyurVeda Tips:

  • Avoid walking bare foot for a long time this will vitiates vata causing cracked heels.
  • Dry and cold weather increases vata in the body and may cause cracked heels so try to cover your ffot with socks.
  • Avoid thin soled shoes or footwear and open backed shoes.
  • Use pumice stone bars to remove thick or dead skin of heels.
  • The skin of heels lacks oil glands so apply herbal motorizing lotions before going to bed and wear cotton socks.
  • Reduce body weight and do not stand for a long time.
  • Never cut hard edges with scissors, razors or blade.
  • A regular foot bath or foot massage helps to keep the skin on heels healthy and soft.
  • Wipe your feet with a dry towel make sure they are dried,apply petroleum jelly and cover them with cloth.You can mix melted paraffin wax and few drops of coconut oil , it will work as a heeling solution.Soon your heels will become soft and smooth.
  • Walking on the green grass at the morning time in the garden is also effective treatmentfor cracked heels.
